Now that you've watched the first Presidential Debate between Romney and Obama and taken notes, what do you think? Who do you think won? Why do you think he won?

It's always interesting to see what the "experts" say about who won the debate and why. Look through some of these news reports and write down words used by article writers and people interviewed which are intended to "sway" the public whether they watched or not.

For example, this Washington Post articlehas a title of "In first presidential debate, Romney is aggressor, Obama is careful in pushing back". If you didn't watch the debate and/or didn't read the whole article, what would your thoughts on that be for either candidate?

Utilize the websites below to see what their main headlines are about the debate results. Read through two articles and in your journal, make a list of words like the ones I underlined in the article title above. These are examples of rhetoric, of people using specific language in order to effectively convey a truth or deceptively manipulate. In the right side column, explain your reaction to those words. What do they make you think of and is it accurate? Do those chosen words manipulate? Respond accordingly.
